Class Description

This is an open-level physical and dynamic contemporary dance class influenced by Release and David Zambrano’s Flying Low techniques. In this class, we will explore the possibilities of form, movement qualities, musicality and organic flow within a movement sequence. In the first part of the class, we will warm up by building strength and mobility throughout the whole body. Through a series of floorwork tasks, acrobatics and improvisation, we will explore how to create movement that travels through the whole body, making it more expansive, organic and interconnected. We will focus on developing an organic sense of movement by linking actions together seamlessly, exploring how one movement naturally leads into the next. By paying attention to transitions, pathways, and the continuity of motion, we will discover ways to make our movement feel more connected, fluid, and effortless. We will also work with a variety of movement qualities and investigate how these can interact with musicality to create movement that is adaptable, expressive, and dynamic. In the final part of the class, we will learn a movement sequence in which we will apply the principles explored throughout the session, integrating flow, transitions, musicality, and movement qualities into a cohesive dancing experience.
