Biography
Tommy is currently a resident choreographer for DANCEWORKS London and has been adjudicating for 10 years.
Theatre and TV credits include: West Side Story playing ‘Action’ (Cork Opera House), My Fair Lady (starring Helena Blackman KILWORTH HOUSE THEATRE).
Pantomimes: Creative Director of the touring Big Top Company, writing and directing 8 pantomimes, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland (starring Peter Dean) for evolution pantomimes : Robin Hood: The Panto (Canterbury), Dick Whittington (Cambridge Arts theatre).
Feature films: Walking on Sunshine, Mamma Mia 2 and the IMAX Olympic movie directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) New Work: Pictures of Life workshop ( by Lionel Segal)
Cruises: Tommy was a Lead Vocalist for Sir Tim Rice and his bespoke show about his life “an evening with’ traveling the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand (Seaborne cruises). The Era Boys shows (P&O Cruises)
Teaching:
Tommy is British artist and creative with a background in musical theatre and dance education. Tommy’s early performance path led him to work with Silva Young as a child and perform for the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall. Later influences and mentors of Tommy’s that would go on to shape his career include Philip Foster, Elva Makins, Kasper Cornish and Thearsa Kerr.
Tommy has a background in grass roots Jazz. He has mastered styles such as fosse, Matt Mattox and Ailey. Tommy’s Jazz Tech training was provided under the guidance of Teresa Kerr (London studios/Ready Steady Go, Founder of BodyWork Company). This disco tech jazz, combined with American styles of Cabaret Jazz define Tommys unique style as a choreographer and dance trainer.
Class description
Commercial Jazz
You’ll explore and learn the roots of Jazz technique and the style of the early movers and shakers that defined Jazz. After a good warm up and some centre work to practice skills such as balance, breath control, travel and elevation, you’ll learn some steps in a Jazz style that’s rooted in technique but up to date and ready for stage, tours and TV shows.
Musical Theatre Jazz
During this class you’ll dance to music of a set theme or style each week from Chicago and other fosse shows, to Wicked, Hamilton and Hello Dolly. We will start with a group warm up, filled With top tips on performance and stage presence, then it’s on to class Work challenges and training- everything from style and movement quality to hat handling and chair dances. Join Tommy weekly for an expressive night of Theatre Jazz, aimed at beginners, suitable for all levels
Fosse Jazz
Join ‘Fosse Man’ Tommy Langdale for a weekly dive into the life and movements of the genius choreographer, film director and dancer Bob Fosse. Music choices will always be showstopping jazz tunes and music from award winning shows. Learn how to egg walk and why to “whoopie”.
