This Horton Foundations is an introduction to the modern dance technique created in the 1930/40’s by Lester Horton. The technique focuses on alignment, strength, flexibility and co-ordination to leave the dance feeling capable and energised.
Lester Horton’s legacy was continued by dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey, through Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, a leading dance company based in New York City who continue to perform new and historical work globally, that highlight the excellence of Horton Technique and can be seen throughout their work on stage. This class will take you through the principle movements of the technique including flat backs, laterals, T positions, stags and finishing off with a dynamic choreography, allowing the students to express themselves, gain confidence and bring together the skills learnt throughout.
