Class Description
These Urban Contemporary classes consist of a cardio and yoga-based warm-up to ground us in the flow of our bodies, followed by an across-the-floor exercise that will train specific movement techniques. We then move on to an improvisation exercise where we explore the Laban efforts and work with (or against) the music to get comfortable moving our bodies in strange new ways while focusing on how the movement feels rather than what it looks like. This exercise helps us connect to our bodies with guidance and without judgment. We will then learn distinctive choreography fusing contemporary and hip hop elements, inspired by legends such as Alvin Ailey, Pina Bausch, and Kyle Abraham. While I love to include innovative and challenging moves in my choreography, I always have adjustments and options prepared to suit all dancers.
