Are you an amateur dancer (18+)  who would love the opportunity to perform to an audience? Danceworks is excited to present a brand new set of courses where you will learn choreography in your chosen style in preparation for a group performance, at an exciting showcase evening event for friends and family at Danceworks on 26th October, with additional guest performances by our talented faculty and staff members. 

With four styles to choose from – Heels, Dancehall, Musical Theatre and Female Street – this is a great opportunity for you to learn a choreography over several weeks set for stage, perform to an audience and build your confidence. Our showcase aims to bring everyone together to celebrate our shared passion for dance and nurture talent within our community.

HEELS PERFORMANCE

Mondays | 16th Sept – 21st Oct + performance on Sat 26th |  6-7pm | 6 weeks

This 6-week course is perfect for dancers who already have some heels experience and would love to improve their performance! The course will focus on how to incorporate your heels technique and performance into a group showcase, while still expressing each student individually. We will work on the same choreography during the 6 weeks, as we prepare it to perform at the end of our course.

FEMALE DANCEHALL

Wednesdays | 2nd Oct – 23rd Oct + performance on Sat 26th Oct | 7.30-9pm | 4 weeks

Shelaine of Ignition Dance Company bringing you Female Dancehall Performance Course. 1.5 hour classes spread over 4 weeks for Women only. Together we will explore Dancehall & empower one another through the Jamaican Female Dancehall moves & learn a constructed piece of exciting cheorgraphy to a dynamic mix. At the end of the 4 weeks we will all showcase the cheorgraphy for The Danceworks Event on Saturday 26th October. This course is for over 18 Women Only General Level – not suitable for complete beginners. Should be able to pick up cheorgraphy

Equipment needed for class : Shorts & Kneepads.

FEMALE STREET DANCE

Wednesdays | 18th Sept – 23rd Oct + performance on Sat 26th Oct| 8-9pm | 6 weeks 

Female street dance is for women from all walks of life wanting to learn and try new moves in a fun non judgmental environment. Each class will consist of a thorough warm up, learning dance moves which can be applied in social settings and lastly learning a choreographed routine.

MUSICAL THEATRE 

Thursdays | 3rd Oct – 23rd Oct + performance on Sat 26th Oct | 7.30-9pm | 4 weeks

In this 4-week Musical Theatre Dance Course, dancers will start each session with a 10-minute warm-up to get ready for the main activity. Following the warm-up, the focus shifts to learning choreography from a well-known musical. Throughout the sessions, dancers will work on mastering the steps, brush up on the interpretation of the characters within the story, and understand the staging necessary to bring the dance to life. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to perform a small dance piece, showcasing what they’ve learned in a fun and engaging performance.
