Biography

Jayla James is a professional dance artist and teacher originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. She began dancing at the age of four and went on to complete her professional training at George Brown College’s Commercial Dance Program in Toronto, later continuing her development at The Room in Los Angeles. Her career has taken her around the world, performing internationally as both a dancer and aerialist. Jayla has completed four contracts with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Entertainment, appearing in large-scale productions including Aqua 80 and Spectra’s Cabaret on Oasis of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, and Anthem of the Seas. Her
credits also include the Hulu series Washington Black, music videos, and performances with a range of companies across commercial and contemporary work. Trained in Hip-Hop, Jazz, Heels, Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, and Musical Theatre,
Jayla’s versatility has expanded further through aerial training, allowing her to blend strength and artistry on stage. Alongside her performance career, Jayla is the founder of Rendezvous Commercial Dance, a training and performance program she founded in Canada to support and inspire the next generation of commercial dancers, with a strong focus on Heels. Now based in London, Jayla is excited to bring Rendezvous Heels to Dance Works. Her classes blend technique, performance, and confidence—encouraging dancers to embrace power, artistry, and individuality through heels dance.

Rendezvous Heels is a class designed to help dancers step into their confidence while learning the foundations of heels dance. Whether you’re new to heels or looking to strengthen your technique and performance quality, this class will guide you through
posture, walks, lines, musicality, and choreography in a supportive and empowering space. Jayla’s focus is to help dancers build confidence from the ground up—creating a safe environment where you can explore your style, develop and grow performance skills, and feel strong and empowered in every movement. Each class includes learning about technique and choreography that bring out both elegance and power. No matter your background, Rendezvous Heels is about more than just steps—it’s about finding your artistry, expression, and confidence in heels.
