Workshop description

Join us for a focused ballet workshop where dancers will explore the fundamental principles of jumps, beginning with the art of creating “ballon”—that signature sensation of weightlessness. Participants will learn to cultivate proper alignment and posture, engaging a neutral pelvis and lifted spine to maximize elevation. Through interactive drills, dancers will discover how coordinated port de bras and lower-body engagement—anchored by a deep, controlled plié—serve as the foundation for smooth, powerful takeoffs.

Building on these fundamentals, the workshop delves into the anatomy and physics behind jumping, highlighting how the calves, quadriceps, glutes, and hip flexors work in concert to propel the body upward. Dancers will practice sequencing muscular contractions in the stretch–shortening cycle, harnessing stored elastic energy during plié to achieve height. In-flight, emphasis will be placed on maintaining turnout, engaging the core for midair stability, and sculpting a poised shape that aligns with biomechanical principles.

Our final segment focuses on **technique essentials—takeoff, in-air positioning, and landing—**paired with safety and injury prevention strategies. You’ll refine the timing of your arm sweep to coincide with leg extension, learn to land softly through a bent knee and roll from ball to heel, and absorb impact to protect joints. Targeted strength and plyometric exercises will reinforce proper mechanics, while flexibility routines safeguard against overuse. By the workshop’s close, dancers will leave equipped to execute clean, elevated jumps with confidence, artistry, and resilience.
