About the Workshop

This class is an introduction to Lester Horton’s technique focused on building strength, dynamic movement quality and full body awareness.

Horton Technique was developed by the American modern dancer and choreographer, Lester Horton. It was one of the primary modern dance techniques used in Alvin Ailey’s choreography on the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and can still be seen throughout their work onstage. This high energy workshop will take you through the foundations of the technique from flat backs and lateral stretches to leg swings, and T positions before culminating with a choreographic phrase, incorporating the elements learned in the class and inviting you to challenge your technique, musicality and creative expression in a fun and playful way.
