Flamenco by Candlelight – Fuego & El Amor Brujo

Class details

DATE: Sunday 8th February 2026

TIME: 17.30-19

TEACHER: Maika Jimenez Blanco

LEVEL: All levels

PRICE: £25

Experience the magic and mystery of flamenco under the gentle glow of candlelight. Inspired by Antonio Gades’ legendary ballet Fuego, itself a tribute to El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla, this unique workshop invites dancers to explore the expressive power of flamenco through light, shadow and emotion.

Led by Maika Jiménez Blanco, flamenco teacher and founder of Flamenco with Maika, participants will discover the connection between movement, rhythm and inner fire. The class will take place in a softly lit studio filled with candlelight, creating an atmosphere of calm intensity and artistic focus.

Through carefully guided exercises, participants will learn steps and short sequences inspired by the themes of El Amor Brujo such as love, memory, fire and transformation, and experience how flamenco becomes almost ritualistic in the flicker of light.

This workshop celebrates the artistic legacy of Antonio Gades and draws on Maika’s training from the Gades Immersive Course directed by Stella Arauzo, Artistic Director of the Antonio Gades Foundation.

Open to all levels, this is a rare opportunity to dance, connect and feel the duende of flamenco in an unforgettable candlelit setting.

What to wear and bring

  • Please arrive wearing flamenco shoes. If you do not have them, you can wear comfortable shoes with a small heel, but ballroom shoes and barefoot dancing are not allowed for safety reasons.

  • Choose clothing that allows free movement, such as a fitted top, skirt or trousers appropriate for flamenco.

  • Colours of red, orange and black are encouraged to reflect the fire and passion of Fuego.

  • Hair should be tied back or styled so the face is visible. Small flamenco accessories such as flowers, combs or shawls are welcome.

  • Arrive a few minutes early to settle in before the candlelight experience begins.
