CELTIC DANCING

Celtic Dancers on the Streets of Montrose

From its Irish roots to the New World, Celtic Dancing has remained a mainstay of Celtic Culture. Known and feared throughout the world, Celtic dancing has suddenly enjoyed a resurgence in popularity with Michael Flatley's River Dance and Lord of the Dance. Audiences around the world have been treated to the same horrifying rhythms and blood-curdling stamping that scared the Vikings off Irish soil and some people actually pay to see it ! With it's Zombie-Like arm positions and glaring stares, Celtic Dancing was used during both great wars to convince the Germans that the British had an ally that was partially insane: the Irish. When dug-in Germans heard the eerie wail of the bag-pipes followed by the huppity-jippity, jumpitty clunk of Irish feet, they abandoned their posts and wet their lederhosen en masse.
